With the growing number of workshops and training programmes ongoing throughout Guyana, the loose network of trainers and facilitators has taken to gathering monthly, and has dubbed themselves the Guyana Facilitator’s Forum. The Forum has been in existence for one year. The Guyana Facilitator’s Forum is a gathering of trainers and facilitators in Guyana. The Forum was described by one of the regular attendees,NFL Jerseys Supply, Lorna McPherson, as a unique place where trainers and facilitators, and persons interested in becoming trainers and/or facilitators, can come and share and learn,Cheap Stitched Jerseys, while at the same time sharpen their professional development as trainers and facilitators.According to members of the Guyana Facilitator’s Forum’s steering committee, which is mandated to set up the monthly gatherings, the group’s mission is threefold. Firstly, the forum seeks to help its members grow professionally by,Supply Authentic NFL Jerseys, “Increasing our capacity, capability and value as facilitators by learning, by sharing and by doing.”This is done through the opportunities members of the Forum have to facilitate, and receive feedback from their facilitations, at the monthly meetings. The feedback helps persons understand what they did effectively and what they can improve on in the future. Added to this, feedback is not given to a facilitator unless he or she wants to hear it. In that manner, no one’s feelings are hurt by the comments made.Secondly, the Forum seeks to develop facilitation opportunities by,Cheap NFL Jerseys, “Identifying, sharing, and re-sourcing projects for and among our members and other professional Guyanese facilitators.” The Forum is now engaging its attention to focus on this aspect of its mission statement.Through the ‘loose network’ of persons who are a part of the Forum, facilitation and training opportunities are sought for members of the forum. The members will offer their services free of cost, as they consider this as a service component. In future, the Forum hopes to promote facilitation, “By educating organizations to the value which professional facilitation brings to all groups.” According to one of the members of the Forum, a training/meeting which is properly facilitated will be much more streamlined and engage the participants in the process of learning. Each monthly session follows, more or less, the same structured guideline. The session is started with a welcome and a brief introduction to the Guyana Facilitator’s Forum, to give newcomers an idea of what the Forum is all about and what it seeks to do. This is usually followed by an Ice Breaker, to help get everyone better acquainted with one another. After this, there is a short recap of the last month’s meeting. The real essence of the meeting starts next, as a teaching session is conducted. Every month, a different topic is presented by different members of the Forum. Some of the topics for the coming months are facilitation, training and coaching skills, learning objectives, evaluation, training techniques,Wholesale Jerseys 2017, listening skills and questioning skills. At this point, the group breaks to allow persons to mingle and get to know one another better. Participants often take this opportunity to network. The meeting is closed after a practice session is held, where participants can ‘try out’ a facilitation/training they may have coming up. Many trainers use this part of the session to refine their facilitation skills by doing a mock training on a topic they may be scheduled to have at an upcoming training. This allows them to better see, and prepare for any difficulties they may encounter in the real training.According to one of the regular members of the Forum, Kala Seegopaul, the more meetings and the more training there are in Guyana, the more the need is present to have better trainers and facilitators. She continued by saying that the Forum focuses on the quality of the facilitations and trainings, not the number of facilitators and trainers. The Forum extends an open invitation to whoever is interested, and the members are by no means stagnant. Persons tend to come and go,Cheap Jerseys Free Shipping, as some of the members are established consultants who often travel in and out of the country. Despite this, the majority of the members are Guyanese, with the expatriate membership amounting so far to only two persons. Part of the self-sustaining nature of the Forum is the fact that no one is paid to come and share their experiences and to teach at the gatherings. The group’s monthly meetings are financed through contributions of $300 that every participant makes on a monthly basis. The funds collected are used to buy some snacks and drinks consumed during ‘networking’ or ‘break’ time, and to buy some markers and flip chart papers used during the monthly training. The Forum meets at the CIDA Programme Support Unit every third Saturday of every month, and an open invitation is extended to interested members of the public to attend. |
