Santa Claus and his elves also surprised the attendees with a visit.The newly lit tree measures 54 feet, a full four feet higher than last year’s. This is in keeping with the Rahaman family’s goal of creating the tallest artificial Christmas tree in the world.The event was chaired by Michella Abraham-Ali, who managed to garner audience participation with Christmas carols in some sections of the event.The event began with a rousing display of skills from the Linden Masquerade Band. It was followed by an interpretive Christmas dance from the Eccles Assembly of God members. Carolers included those from Bishop’s High School, the Success Elementary School and the Brickdam Cathedral Choir. The carolers even included President Donald Ramotar, who joined in the merriment with the crowds of excited children.Traditional Christmas songs included “O Come All Ye Faithful”, “Deck the Halls”, and “We Wish You A Merry Christmas” among others.
