A very thirsty man who admitted to stealing a Smalta, one Vita Malt and a Cream Soda all valued at $680, property of the Shell Service Station supermarket, was given a two-year suspended sentence Wednesday by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine – Beharry.John Hercules, who was unrepresented, committed the unlawful act on February 11,Jerseys NFL Wholesale, at the Shell Service Station supermarket on Regent and King Streets.Police corporal Bharrat Mangru told the court that on the day in question the defendant entered the supermarket, picked up the items and then consumed them. He then left the supermarket without paying.When asked by the Magistrate if he has money to reimburse the company, the vendor told the court that he has money to do so and that he was charged once before for loitering. The Prosecutor intervened and informed the Magistrate that the man was brought before the court two years back for simple larceny but was never convicted of the offence.Hercules was given a two-year suspended sentence and warned that if he commits any crime within that period he would be jailed. |
