This he did not do.”The report said that based on this, Persaud should be allowed to resume duties “under conditions that would require him to improve his conduct and the performance of his duties as a lecturer at the university.”The Special Committee also urged that the lecturer be given a strong written warning that explains the university’s reasonable and legitimate expectations regarding his classroom behaviour and his responsibilities to students such as being fair and unbiased in the awarding of grades, the timely distribution of course materials, and other areas in the delivery of his courses.DisagreementYesterday, when contacted, the UG Worker Union representative on the Council, Freddie Kissoon, made it clear that the union is under no obligation to accept the document since from the very inception; there were objections to the composition of the panel.“This position has now been vindicated,” the union official said.Kissoon pointed out that even one of the Council’s members, Gino Persaud, a lawyer, had raised the issue of the committee’s composition in the Council but nothing was done.To compound matters, Kissoon said that the conflict of interest scenario is made worse by the fact that the report is to be reviewed by Ralph Ramkarran, a known PPP official, at the legal level.Kissoon argued that the Council is at fault in the process since it did not do the correct thing to scrap the committee- an important legal and moral point, he stressed.While he refused to discuss the Council’s meeting on Thursday, as well as the contents of the actual report, the union official was at pains to note his misgivings. “This does not look good.
