Neighborhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) in West Berbice are asking that property valuations in several villages be expedited so that they can collect much needed funds for community development.Chairman of the Bath/Woodley Park NDC, Cecil Ramdat, said that many NDCs are unable to carry out their programmes to a satisfactory extent,Cheap Jerseys From China, because of their inability to collect rates and taxes on renovated or newly built edifices that have not yet been assessed. He said that as a result, at the moment, the most his NDC could commit itself to effectively completing in the three villages, were projects that could be executed using the $3M annual Central Government subvention. In addition, the NDC is “making do” and grateful for assistance from the Regional Democratic Council of Region Five (Mahaica/Berbice) with respect to improvement of residential drains and some community roads. The NDC is also hopeful about getting some roads repaired under the Community Roads Improvement Project (CRIP) being managed by the Ministry of Local Government.Ramdat however added: “We at Bath/Woodley Park want to do a lot more work for the improvement of the villages, but this absence of valuation on properties is a major obstacle.”“The Ministry of Local Government and/or the Ministry of Finance, need to appoint valuators and to speed up the process,” he said, adding that this problem was a bugbear to many other NDCs on the West Coast of Berbice. |
