He was also accused of robbing Mark Hunte on May 16, 2010, of articles valued $160,000.Also appearing before Magistrate Beharry, on Monday,Andrew Franks Dolphins Jersey, last, was Oma Chaitray of Lot, 37 A Leonora, West Coast Demerara, who was charged with obtaining money by false pretence.It is alleged that between March 4, 2009 and November 4, 2010, the accused obtained from Clarence De Abreu a sum of $430,000 by falsely pretending that she was in the process of securing a document, for a portion of land situated at La Bonne Intention (LBI).The defendant, who was unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to the charge.Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford had no objections to bail, however, he told the court that De Abreu bought a portion of land at LBI, where he sought the relevant person(s) to prepare the necessary document(s) for the handing over of a transport.Telford said that the defendant told De Abreu that she could have the transport process done, where she demanded the sum of money. Telford added that the VC found out that it was a bogus act, and subsequently informed the police about the matter and the defendant was charged with the offence, after an investigation was conducted.The Magistrate granted bail to the tune of $250,000. The woman is to make her next court appearance on January 31, 2011. |
