– project officially launched at North Ruimveldt Secondary SchoolDigicel Guyana has partnered with the Lions Club of D’Urban Park to combat the prevalence of anemia within the society. Anemia,Cheap NHL Jerseys, which is a low level of haemoglobin in the blood due to a reduction in the number or size of red blood cells, affects a large percentage of the population, especially children and pregnant women.During an ongoing series of sessions with students of various secondary schools and women at health centres across Guyana, Digicel and the Lions hope to raise more awareness about this condition.Digicel Guyana Sales Director, Kalpesh Joshi, said that Digicel is very pleased to partner with Lions on this project since it is part of the company’s goal to work closely with organisations that cater to health issues that affect our society. He added that theyhoped that by the end of this project, persons will become more aware of Anemia and its prevention thus ensuring we have a healthier society. The project was launched on Friday at the North Ruimveldt Secondary School where health officials and nutritionists interacted with students to inform them about the risks associated with Anemia.According to President of the Lions Club of D’ Urban Park, Lioness Denise Thompson, the Anemia Project will be extended across Guyana. She noted that apart from raising awareness, they are also conducting tests and providing iron supplements for persons diagnosed with anemia. Thompson explained that the Lions Club is a service organization and is committed to taking care of the well being of persons in our society. She said they would work assiduously to make sure that persons understand how this condition can affect them.Medical Practitioner, Dr. Dagleish Joseph, said that anemia cases are prevalent in Guyana because persons are not aware of the condition and very often persons do not eat an iron rich balanced diet.He noted that if there is not enough haemoglobin, the cells of the body are deprived of oxygen and hence a person will not have enough energy to function normally.Anemia in pregnant women causes an increased risk of maternal illness and death. It also affects children. They can become inattentive and easily fatigued. The learning process and growth in these children are retarded.Hence, it is important for persons to maintain a balanced diet.
