The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) is in support of the stance of the Guyana Fire Advisory Board, in relation to the removal of derelict buildings in and around the capital city.Since 2009, the buildings were inspected, photographed and the City Engineers’ Department was informed of the eminent danger that these buildings create throughout the city, GGCI said yesterday.“Moreover, during the period 2009- 2013, a total of 38 buildings were identified for action. However, four years later, the lion’s share of those buildings, 34, remains in existence without the appropriate action being taken.”The business body said the matter has taken even more relevance as the country observes Fire Prevention Week,Cheap Jerseys China, and derelict buildings, in addition to contributing to the destruction of life and property, and reducing the aesthetics of the environment, is fire hazards.“Two of the derelict buildings identified succumbed to fire during the stated period, giving key support for relevant preventative action to be taken in a timely manner. The Chamber looks forward to a timely response and action from the relevant authorities so that this bulging list of derelict buildings can be trimmed expediently, ensuring a safer environment for the citizens of Georgetown and its environs.” |
