City Magistrate Dylon Bess yesterday ordered a handyman to pay $13,000 in compensation or spend one month in prison, after he pleaded guilty to a charge of fraudulent conversion.Rafeek (yellow shirt) and Terry RobertsTerry Roberts admitted that on September 22, at John and Bent Streets, Georgetown, he fraudulently converted $10,000, to his own use and benefit.  The amount was given to him by Petal Perry to purchase printer ink.When the matter came up in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, Roberts pleaded with the Magistrate to give him time to pay back the money.According to the Prosecution’s facts, Roberts has been employed for the past five years as a handyman for the virtual complainant. On the day in question, Perry gave him money to buy ink for a printer.The court heard that Roberts left with the money and never returned with the item.Perry became suspicious and reported the matter to the police.  Investigations were carried out and the defendant was arrested and charged.When Magistrate Bess inquired from Perry if she would accept the compensation, she replied in the affirmative.This matter comes up again on October 5 when the court will ascertain if the money was repaid.Meanwhile, in another matter, a 46 year-old excavator operator was released on self-bail, after he was accused of jumping a fence and calling his wife a bitch.Rafeek (only name given) of 292 Freeman Street, East La Penitence, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on September 25, at Freeman Street, he jumped over a fence, kicked down a door and called Ali Moses, a bitch.He was ordered to return to court on October 13, for trial.Court facts revealed that Rafeek and Moses are known to each other. On the day in question, around 20:00hrs, Moses was at home when the defendant kicked down her door and called her a bitch.The court heard that the woman became scared and called out to neighbours, who came to her rescue.A report was later made by Moses to the police, which led to investigations being carried out and the defendant was apprehended and charged.When given a chance to explain his side of the story, the defendant claimed that the police facts were not true.
