A man who chopped his cousin after the cousin called him a madman was on Friday sentenced to 12 months jail.The man, Alvin April,Wholesale Hockey Jerseys China, 31, of  Errol’s Ville Angoy’s Avenue was before  the court on a charge of unlawful and malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm committed on his cousin Roderick April. The accused was handed the penalty by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo before whom the matter was tried at the New Amsterdam magistrate’s court.Prosecuting Inspector Jairam Ramlakhan told the court that the two men are close relatives and on Thursday 24th March at around 17:15 hrs an argument broke out between them.  During the time the victim told the accused that he is a mad man and with that the accused got annoyed and secured a cutlass with which he inflicted several chops on his cousin’s arm and legs. The wounded man collapsed and had to be rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he was admitted.The matter was reported and April was arrested and charged.The man had created an uproar when he first appeared in the Reliance Magistrate court back in March.  He was scantily dressed in rags and had his underwear, which he had stated was his hat, on his head.  He was taken out of the court and refused to be taken back into the building when his matter was called.He started to rant and rave and took the underwear from his head and started to chew it.The prosecutor had also made an application for April to be taken to the National Psychiatric Hospital to be examined by a doctor who had determined that he was fit to stand trial.
