Local police officials have contacted their US counterparts as they seek to question an overseas-based Guyanese who is a suspect in the Good Friday hit-and-run death of Ramona Harris.Traffic Chief Neil Semple made this revelation yesterday while also disclosing that a report on the case is to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions next week.According to the police,Alexander Mogilny Jersey, Mahase Chunilal, the owner of the car, has alleged that an overseas-based relative was driving his vehicle, PMM 3248, when Harris was struck and killed in Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.He reportedly said that the relative left the country the following day.Chunilal, of Lot 36 South Better Hope, East Coast Demerara, was charged with breach of insurance and permitting the use of an uninsured vehicle.Ramona Harris, who has a one-year-old daughter, died from multiple injuries after being struck from behind on the main road in Diamond Housing Scheme.The victim’s mother, Theresa Harris, told Kaieteur News that she is still mourning the loss of her daughter.Mrs. Harris said she visited her daughter’s grave on Mother’s Day.The woman revealed that she is desperately in need of financial assistance for her grand-daughter. |
