Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, sitting at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court, has asked Police Prosecutor,Jose Calderon Jersey, Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, to investigate the circumstances leading to a 17-year-old schoolgirl being placed in the lock up at the New Amsterdam Police Station for two days.This was after an allegation was made by Attorney for the teen, Charrandass Persaud, who was representing the girl in a matter of larceny of a cell phone.The prosecution and the defence then erupted in a war of words as both sides became heated.Attorney Persaud accused the police of overstepping their mark. However, as the defence continued to ask searching questions, Prosecutor Dayaram was quickly on his feet and would have none of the defence outburst.He stated that the remarks are just allegations and should be substantiated by the defence or be withdrawn.However the attorney was adamant that what happen was not proper.As the two men continued to argue, the magistrate quickly demanded order on the court.When this was restored there were some discussions by the two sides and it was decided to dismiss the matter after the Virtual Complainant declined to offer any evidence against the teen, stating that he had recovered his phone.But the magistrate then ordered that a Probation Report be done on the teen and that she should receive counseling.The allegation was that on  January 5, last, at 46 Village, Stanleytown, she stole one Motorola cell Phone valued $5,500 property of Slater Lagadoo.Another matter involving the teenager and her boyfriend was put down for further report.She will have to report to court on February 8, when the Probation Report is expected to be presented.
