Leonard Dorrick,Air Max 97 White, 63, was so drunk that he thought he was merely stepping into a pothole in the road; but instead it turned out to be a 40 foot well on April 18 last at Yupukari, Central Rupununi. He only sobered up after he was pulled out by public spirited persons a few hours later and ended up initially in a Brazilian border hospital.Dorrick is now a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, having been transferred from the Lethem hospital after his injuries could not be treated there.Yesterday in the male surgical ward of the GPHC, Dorrick in the presence of his wife, Diana Dorrick, related to Kaieteur News that he was walking in an area not familiar to him, unaware of a well being there and fell in.Dorrick suffered a broken left arm, broken right leg, fractured right shoulder and lacerations about the body. He disclosed that he will be undergoing surgery for his broken arm soon.Kaieteur News understands that the man is a frequent consumer of alcohol, and at the time of the incident he was so drunk that he staggered into the well.A friend of the injured man who dropped by for a short visit was overheard encouraging him to desist from drinking rum because he is endangering his life as she made reference to his mishap. In response he said that the incident is an “eye opener”, and it will help him not to “drink rum no more”. He also expressed how grateful he is to have survived his little misfortune.Hopefully the incident will be a lesson well learnt. |
