The case of University of Guyana lecturer, Evan Persaud, has apparently come to rest with the highest body within the University’s structure of Governance, namely the University Council.Registrar of the University, Vincent Alexander, said in an invited comment, yesterday, that the matter had been reported to and investigated by the Academic Board.A report was subsequently submitted to the Council and at present the Administration is currently awaiting the action of the Council on the matter.The students involved, however, are not satisfied with the length of time it is taking for the matter to be resolved.One of the chief complainants, Ganesh Mahipaul, said that from his perspective the matter is a simple one and he therefore cannot understand why the Administration is taking such a long time to make a decision.He noted that the reticence is disturbing and he is worried that the council may decide in favour of Persaud.Evan Persaud who taught a number of Geology-based courses was reported early last year to the Administration by 18 of his students for a number of acts and for behaviour thought to be unbecoming of a lecturer.Among these were the use of profanity in lectures and threatening the students. The matter was subsequently investigated by three members of the Administration who submitted reports to the council.In that report it was noted that Persaud was in violation of clauses two and five of the University Code of Conduct. Those clauses dealt with the use of profanities in class and displaying a general lack of professionalism in his actions as a lecturer.  Of a more serious note was the finding that Persaud apparently contravened the rights of the students when he threatened them with victimisation and subsequently followed through by writing a letter that requested the termination of a student’s scholarship as well as reportedly grading them unfairly.Combined with the knowledge that Persaud actually chose to stage final examinations for his courses at a site other than the University, which intimated that he was acting in a manner thought to be inimical to the University since it affected the integrity of the degree being offered,Wholesale Jerseys, statute 25 of the University Code of Conduct was invoked. This states that if it appears to the council that there is reasonable cause to believe  that any member of staff is guilty of grave misconduct this could cause the termination of his employment.At present, Mr. Evan Persaud is suspended from his duties at the University with pay.
