Cheddi Bacchus made an appearance before Magistrate Annette Singh on Friday, to answer the charge of robbery under-arms.The charge read that on December 12, at Joseph Pollydore Street, Lodge, Georgetown, while being in the company of others and armed with a dangerous weapon, an ice-pick, he robbed Troy Braithwaite of one Samsung phone worth $80,000 and one Alcatel Cellular phone worth $120,000.Bacchus who resides at Lot 28,Nike Shox Men Clearance, Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by the Magistrate in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.Police Prosecutor Christopher Morris objected to bail based on the nature of the offence and the penalty it attracts.Morris stated that Bacchus is a repeat offender and if granted bail it’s likely that he will not return to court for the trial.Morris told the court that on the day in question the Virtual Complainant was at a shop to make a purchase when the defendant walked up to him while being in the company of others and pulled out a ice pick and robbed him of his phones.The matter was reported to the Police and the defendant was arrested and charged. The defendant was positively identified after a confrontation was held at the station between him and the Virtual Complainant.Bail was refused and Bacchus will make his next court appearance on December 30. |
