…country excels in primary, secondary school enrollment – GCI ReportGuyana ranks 110th among 139 countries on the Global Competitive Index for the 2010 to 2011 and has scored 3.6 out of a possible 7 points as a country.According to the report which is compiled by the World Economic Forum (WEF),Nike Air Max Shoes For Women, the country has maintained its ranking from the previous year.Despite the fact that Guyana’s rank listing is now 110,Adidas Nmd r1 Women, lower than the 104 last year, on the report this year six more countries have also been added to the list taking the total number of countries from 133 to 139.The report states that there is “… a continuing shift in the balance of economic activity away from the advanced economies and towards developing ones.” It goes on to point out that developing countries have fared remarkably well in the recent financial crisis, and states that the economies of Brazil, India and China are expected to grow between  5.5 and 10 percent over this year with sustained growth expected over the next few years as well. The report states, “The International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicts growth of 6.25 percent for emerging markets,Nike Tns Sale, compared with 2.25 percent for advanced economies in 2010.”In compiling the report,Air Max Shoes For Sale, analysts at the WEF evaluated each country’s standing under 12 key ‘pillars’ which are grouped into three categories: basic requirements, efficiency enhancers and innovation and sophistication factors.Under the category of Basic Requirements,Cheap Hockey Jerseys 2019, Guyana was evaluated on four pillars, under each of which is a further set of indicators. In terms of Institutions, one of the four pillars, Guyana was found to have a ranking of 109 out of a possible 139 with reference to irregular payments and bribes, while our ranking was 127th under business costs of crime and violence. The report stated that the most problematic factor for doing business in Guyana was the heavy taxation rate.Crime and theft were the second biggest problems whilst it was found that the uneducated workforce was the third biggest challenge for businesses in Guyana.Access to financing, poor work ethic and corruption were also found to be severe hindrances for operating businesses in Guyana. While there has been some progress in removing the ‘red tape’ it was found that inefficient Government bureaucracy and policy instability were also found to be an impediment. The reliability of Guyana’s police services was ranked at 114. Under infrastructure, the second pillar, one of the factors evaluated was the quality of the country’s electricity supply where the ranking was 116.Macroeconomic Environment – pillar three— saw Guyana ranking close to or under 100 in at least seven areas out of a possible nine.Among these are our interest rate spread -122nd, Government Debt – 129th and Country Credit Rating – 122nd.The fourth pillar was Health and Primary Education where there was a ray of hope in that the quality of primary education in Guyana merits a ranking of 53 while that of the primary education enrollment rate was 61.For a country that ranks under 100 in this report for this category places Guyana with a competitive advantage.Pillar five – higher education and training – had at least one area that was considered a definite competitive advantage by the analysts at WEF. That is the secondary education enrollment rate of Guyana where the country is ranked 16th out of 139 countries. However this performance was not carried over to tertiary enrollment where the ranking for Guyana is 105th.In terms of health the ratings were somewhat lower than those of education with Guyana being ranked at less than a hundred for a number of areas. These include malaria incidence (116), HIV prevalence (122), infant mortality (108) and life expectancy (101).Pillar Six addresses the market in Guyana and the rankings indicate which market forces are hindrances and which are opportunities.According to the report, Guyana ranks lower than 120 in the extent and effect of taxation, the prevalence of foreign ownership, the burden of customs procedures and buyer sophistication.Guyana’s labour market efficiency has two competitive advantages where the country ranks 46th in terms of rigidity of employment and 20th in terms of hiring and firing practices.Similarly,Air Max 97 Black Leather, under financial market development the soundness of Guyana’s banks ranks at 55, just five places away from being a competitive advantage.
