Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan yesterday refused bail for a 26-year-old gold miner after he appeared before her, charged with the illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts yesterday.Dinesh Dharamdeo of Lot 1350 Block Three, Providence, East Bank Demerara, is accused of having a 9mm pistol in his possession, when he was not the holder of a firearm licence. It was further alleged that he had seven live rounds of 9mm ammunition in his possession.He was allegedly found with the articles on December 16,Cheap MLB Hats Online, at Black Water Backdam,Jonas Jerebko Jersey, Cuyuni River. Dharamdeo pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was represented by Attorney, Peter Hugh.Police Corporal,Alec Burks Jersey, Kerry Bostwick presented the prosecution’s case. He told the court that on the day in question,Anas Mahmoud Jersey, the police were on patrol when they saw the defendant on an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV). Bostwick said that after the suspect saw the police, he began acting in a suspicious manner. The police stopped the vehicle and carried out a search on the defendant.According to the prosecutor,Andre Schurrle Jersey, the illegal firearm and ammunition were found in Dharamdeo’s crotch. He said that the man admitted to the police that he was not a licenced firearm holder. Bostwick said that the man was taken to the Bartica Police station and charged with the offences.Attorney Hugh requested that his client be granted bail on the grounds that he would not be given a trial within a fair time. The lawyer explained to the court that there is a backlog of cases at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court and that the Magistrate is currently on leave.However, his bail application was met with objections by Bostwick. He opposed bail citing the seriousness and prevalence attached to the offences. He also pointed out that no special reasons were provided by the attorney for his client to be admitted to bail.These objections were held by the Magistrate,Rui Hachimura Jersey, who remanded Dharamdeo to prison until January 7. This matter was transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
