Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson jailed 42-year-old Joel Niles of Campbellville Housing Scheme for three years for stealing a quantity of articles from his sister, Abiola Niles.The theft occurred on February 26 last at Campbellville, Georgetown when Niles broke and entered his sister’s property and committed the act.He pleaded not guilty.“Your Worship, my brother is always doing this; he smokes and steals from me, and I never get anything back. I can’t take this anymore,” his sister said.According to Police Prosecutor Sergeant Seetaram,Aleksander Barkov Jersey, at around 11:50 hours the virtual complainant went out and returned home about 12:20 hours to find her home broken into.He said that she saw the louvres of her window missing and instantly suspected that he was the culprit. She then went and made checks to see if anything was stolen.That was when she discovered that the articles were missing. Ms. Niles then made a report to the station “Your Worship, the defendant has had a similar case in another court, so it is only right that the defendant be refused bail,” Seetaram saidHowever, the prosecution convinced the Court that Niles was guilty, and the Magistrate after much consideration sentenced the defendant to three years’ imprisonment. |
