The Carnegie School of Home Economics, on Thursday,Jerseys Wholesale, celebrated its 83rd anniversary under the theme; “God, our Dwelling place for all generations”.Chairperson of Board of Governors Ms. Patricia DavidCarnegie School of Economics was founded in 1933 by Andrew Carnegie, as an avenue for young women to gain employment and as a way of earning money.The school was first named Carnegie School of Trade but was subsequently renamed Carnegie School of Economics in 1958.Their celebrations for this year’s anniversary, included exhibits of products and items from their various courses offered at the school. A small ceremony was held before the viewing of the exhibits. Chairing the proceedings was Ms. Audrey Hinds, a member of staff and well known TV personality.The ceremony included songs and dances by students of the Carnegie School. Several members of the Board of Governors were present and Reverend Monsell Alves was the Guest Speaker in attendance.Educator and Chairperson of the Board of Governors Ms. Patricia David, M.S was on hand for a brief speech to the audience stating that Carnegie has produced a number of successful and well-rounded persons that contribute to Guyana and around the world.In her report, Principal Ms. Penelope Harris posited that Carnegie’s average intake for the last five academic years has been 200 students for the fulltime courses and 1000 students per term for evening classes. She added that things can only get better for Carnegie. Students should be proud to be a part of such an historic occasion as Carnegie turns 83.The ceremony concluded with the presentation of tokens of appreciation to two recipients by Ms. Patricia David M.S.After the conclusion of the ceremony special invitees and guests were treated to samples from the exhibition of a wide array of dishes. |
