The third in a series of documentaries on Guyana by Captain Mike Charles was launched yesterday at the Ministry of Tourism.This documentary – Guyana Yours to Discover— Wild Guyana – features wildlife in various interior locations throughout Guyana.Speaking at the launch, Minister of Tourism,Andrew Benintendi Jersey, Manniram Prashad, said that the launching of the documentary could not have come at a more opportune time with Carifesta X merely days away.According to him, through every person that sees the documentary, Guyana is promoted.“We’re all Guyanese; we have to promote Guyana and tourism is the vehicle,” Minister Prashad said.He noted that Guyana is now featured prominently on several documentaries produced by the BBC and National Geographic.The Minister also said scores of visitors are coming to Guyana to document the wildlife. He urged that people preserve the national wildlife.Minister Prashad congratulated Mike Charles on his production, which he noted was extremely dangerous to accomplish. Some of the most dangerous animals were featured in this documentary.Charles, a helicopter pilot attached to the Guyana Defence Force, told reporters that he does not have a strategy for promoting the DVD but added that it is available online.He pointed out that the last one – Guyana Yours to Discover – was sent to every part of the world. That documentary, he said, featured various places in Guyana.He also said that he recently started shooting a new DVD called ‘The Giants of Guyana’ which features all of the large animals in Guyana.Charles said that the documentary, which was launched yesterday, will also be donated to schools throughout the country. |
