Public schools across Georgetown were also closed yesterday. The Education Ministry has premised its decision to reopen and close some other schools based on the weather forecast issued by the Ministry of Agriculture’s Hydrometeorological Service. The Hydrometeorological Service in an advisory issued yesterday noted that the highest rainfall reported over the prolonged rainfall was recorded at Strathavon in Region Four with 244.0 mm followed by Helena No. 2 also in Region Four with 202.4 mm.According to the Hydro Met office as at 08:00 hours yesterday, it was able to receive reports from a number of its rainfall stations across the country which helped to outline a total accumulated rainfall between 08:00 hours November 19, 2014 to 08:00 hours on November 20, 2014.It was noted that the highest rainfall reported thus far was in Georgetown characterized by 186.6 mm. It was pointed out too that “according to the data available from our Synoptic Stations, most of the rainfall experienced would have occurred during the early morning.”The forecast for yesterday was quite precise reflected by cloudy to overcast skies across coastal and inland areas with occasional to frequent moderate to heavy showers and scattered thundershowers.Other areas across Guyana were slated to have mostly cloudy skies with brief showers, with rainfall expected between 5.0 mm to 50.0 mm. The highest rainfall was experienced over coastal areas.Meanwhile, the forecast suggests that today there will be cloudy skies in Regions One through Four, and at Region Seven, with frequent showers and scattered thundershowers. Other areas are likely to have partly cloudy skies, becoming cloudy with scattered showers and anticipated rainfall between 0.0 mm to 45.0 mm.Tomorrow, too, cloudy to overcast skies with showers can be expected throughout Guyana with scattered showers over coastal areas and isolated thunderstorms during the morning. However it is expected that the weather will become partly sunny by afternoon. However, other areas are expected to have isolated showers, with rainfall expected between 0.0 mm to 30.0 mm.The forecast continues that mainly overcast skies are expected on Sunday throughout Northern Guyana with intermittent rain and scattered to occasional thundershowers. Rainfall intensities are likely to be moderate to heavy and accompanied by gusty winds. For Sunday, too, southern Guyana is likely to see partly sunny skies with anticipated rainfall between 0.0 mm to 60.0 mm with rainfall being highest in the areas of Regions One to Three.Based on the forecast,Jerseys Wholesale, above normal High Tide will be in effect until Thursday November 27, 2014, thus residents of coastal, low lying and riverine areas are advised to take necessary precautions.
