Some 50 percent of those valid votes were cast for the PPP (118,297 votes). The Guyanese people are not politically stupid; they saw the game from a mile away.Many in rural Guyana took political decisions at the micro-level because of the state of this relationship.  The consequences were catastrophic for the governing party across rural Guyana.The Independent Groups (IG) did not do so well; overall they received fewer than five percent of the total valid votes cast,Cheap New York Mets Jerseys, mainly because there was a trust deficit when it came to third parties. Some political commentators told me this has much to do with how people see the AFC today but it is too early for me to conclude on this matter.However, there were several instances where IGs did very well.  The most successful case was the “the 8th of May Movement” which won the NDC elections in the BV/Triumph area on the East Coast of Demerara.Then there was the “Community for Change and Development” which won seven seats on the East Bank of Demerara in an area stretching from Craig to Caledonia. The PPP won 48 LAAs (68 percent) of the available communities outright.  When we look at the seats won, there was a very instructional message. The PPP won some 740 seats vs. the governing party 382. The citizens had to wait some 19 years to dish out these blows to the PPP for deliberately keeping the City stink as they played petty politics with City Hall. What happened in Georgetown is a message for all politicians, serve the people not yourself and your family or else we shall get you one day.As we moved to the Corentyne, it was a totally different message.  It was as if that part of Guyana knew no other symbol but the CUP.  Across the Corentyne, the PPP won 15 LAAs vs. 2 for the governing party. The PPP ran away with more than two and a half times the votes earned by the governing party on the Corentyne.  The margin of victory in favour of the PPP on the Corentyne was some 16,795 votes, which was more than what the governing party earned collectively in Bartica, Lethem and Linden.  These Corentyne results confirmed that the AFC, WPA and all the other small parties are on political life support and may have been politically dead if it was not for the “saline” of being part of the government. CONCLUSIONThese LGE 2016 have now confirmed that the PPP and PNC have re-established themselves as the only mannequins in the Guyanese political showroom. All other political forces have been shunted to the background as window dressing.  The message is clear; the people want national unity and they want this dialogue to happen directly between the PPP and the PNC.  Will their leadership listen?Finally – thank you, President Granger, for holding these Local Government Elections. Regardless of which side feels that it has won, our people were finally able to speak at the local level.  For that exclusive reason, the people have won.
