Under the theme “Promoting Diabetes Awareness” dozens of Rotarians from the Rotary Clubs in Suriname and Cayenne will be in Guyana this weekend for the Rotary Inter-Guianas Meeting 2010.Rotary is said to be the largest non-governmental voluntary service in the world. Every year Rotarians from the three countries get together to plan closer collaboration and to share fellowship.The formal opening ceremony will be held today at the Princess Hotel. Guyana’s President, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo is expected to then address the Rotarians.The formal opening will be followed by the Business Session, at which the Rotarians from the three Guianas will discuss the theme of the meeting “Promoting Diabetes Awareness”.In the afternoon, the Rotarians will demonstrate their commitment to the theme by participating in a hands-on community project at the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) Headquarters onBrickdam.They will roll up their sleeves and physically help to improve conditions at the office of the Diabetes and Hypertension Association now being accommodated in the building.After a farewell dinner and dance later this evening,Maglia Juventus Bambino, the Rotarians from Suriname and Cayenne will depart for their homes on Sunday. |
