A case of fraudulent conversion was dismissed against Dexter Bentick, after his niece refused to give evidence, when the matter was called yesterday before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. It was alleged that between, December 18, 2015 and February 19, last, at Georgetown, Dexter Bentick, being solely entrusted by Nekeisha Niles with a quantity of clothing valued $1.3M, to sell and to return the proceeds to Niles, fraudulently converted the proceeds to his own use and benefit.Initially Bentick, 39, of Bartica,Nike Air Max Halvalla, pleaded guilty. However, based on an explanation he offered to the court, the Magistrate entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.Niles asked that the matter be dismissed since she and her uncle had made a deal (payment plan) outside of the court. Niles said that at the time of the incident, she was unaware of her uncle’s financial status.Police Prosecutor Sophia Sardinha had objected to bail for Bentick on the ground that he provided investigators and the court with different addresses. It was disclosed in court that some of the articles mentioned in the charge were recovered. |
