Deon Marques, popularly known as the ‘one -eye bandit,’ has been sentenced,Chris Mullin Team USA Jersey, yesterday,Custom Raptors Jersey, to serve five years behind bars for a series of robberies he committed, last year.The defendant had initially pleaded not guilty to the allegations but opted to change his plea when he appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly yesterday.Given that Marques accepted all the charges, Magistrate Daly imposed a calculated sentence of 51 years. She sentenced the defendant to five years on each count of the armed robbery; five years on each count of discharging a loaded gun and three years each for the offences of gun possession without licence and possession of ammunition without licence.However, owing to the fact that the sentences are scheduled to run concurrently, the defendant will only serve five years behind bars.Marques was shot in the eye during a confrontation with police at the scene of the robbery.Marques, 22,DeMarcus Cousins Team USA Jersey, of Lot 526 Kaneville Grove,DeMar DeRozan Team USA Jersey, East Bank Demerara and of  Lot 3414 Stevedore Housing Scheme, Georgetown was charged with five counts of robbery under-arms, four counts of discharging a loaded firearm with intent, a charge of possession of illegal firearm and another for possession of ammunition without license.He was sentenced at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.Marques made his first appearance at the Providence Magistrate’s Court on December 18, last to face the charges.The first charge read that on December 13, at Grove Housing Scheme, while in the company of another,DeMarre Carroll Raptors Jersey, and armed with a gun, he robbed Cheryl Embarack of an undisclosed quantity of gold jewellery, one cellular phone and one stereo set.He was also accused of robbing Colin Semple and his sister of cellular phones to the value of $51,000.This latter robbery allegedly occurred on December 3, at Grove Housing Scheme.On November 20,John Wall Wizards Jersey, in the vicinity of Golden Grove, the defendant held Dracaena Melville at gunpoint and relieved her of all her gold jewellery.He later robbed Melville’s mother, Jacqueline Melville, of her gold jewellery,Jason Williams Magic Jersey, her cellular phone and cash valued at $845,000. The man faced additional charges for having an illegal gun with matching ammunition on December 3, at Grove Housing Scheme.The weapon a .32 pistol and 10 live rounds of ammunition, police found in his possession. The father of one was also charged for discharging a loaded firearm at Police Rank,Evan Fournier Magic Jersey, Arlington Samuels, with intent to disfigure,Nikola Vucevic Magic Jersey, maim or cause grievous bodily harm.Police Prosecutor Michael Grant had told the court that on December 13, Cheryl Embrack was entering her home in the early hours of the morning when she was attacked by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.The men took her into the house, and relieved her of one stereo set and one cell phone. While the robbery was in progress, police ranks responded in a timely manner and stopped the alleged criminals.The police reportedly came under fire and retaliated, shooting Marques in the eye in the process.His accomplice got away.  The injured bandit was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for surgery.  The ranks later recovered an unlicensed pistol and matching rounds from the crime scene.
