Courts Guyana is poised to open a spanking new state-of-the-art warehouse complex at Eccles on the East Bank of Demerara.The furniture and appliance giant purchased the four acres of property in 2011 for the purposes of expanding its holding capacity to increase the efficiency in how products are offloaded and transported to its sales outlets, and to increase the amounts of products that can be stored for transshipment.From left Clinton Urling, Guillermo Siman, Sam Hinds, Clyde De Haas and Ashni Singh turning the sod of the site where the Courts warehouse will be built.A sod-turning ceremony was held yesterday on the site at Eccles to symbolically usher in the construction of the facility. Among those present were, Prime Minister Samuel Hinds,Magasin Air Max Belgique, performing the duties of President; Minister of Finance Ashni Singh; Executive Vice President and Vice Chairman of the Unicomer Group (a foreign company that Acquired Courts Caribbean in 2006) Guillermo Siman; President of Guyana Chamber of Commerce and Industry Clinton Urling and CEO of Courts Clyde De Hass, along with their respective representatives.Siman speaking on the 60,000-square ft. distribution centre which will soon be constructed, said that the impetus for the establishment of the building came in the wake of much needed storage which the older Courts warehouse was no longer able to efficiently manage.He posited that “this facility is being designed following world class logistics standards, featuring high density racking to increase our storage capacity, which will benefit local manufactures as they will have an opportunity to increase production for distribution at the proper time to our store. We will feature specialized forklift trucks for the stacking of the goods and our staff will undergo special training to operate this equipment.”Siman further stated that 18 loading bays will be featured in this new design thatThe site where courts warehouse will be located.will allow the loading trucks to turn around at a faster rate, thereby making the delivery process more efficient, which will benefit customers. He declared that “this investment of US$5M and retail expansion of company stores, demonstrates our company’s confidence in the economy of Guyana.”Prime Minister Hinds, GCCI president Urling and Finance Minister Singh all spoke to the benefits that Courts Guyana has over its 20 years of existence delivered to Guyanese. This includes the successful implementation of Hire purchase, the Foreign Direct Investment that the company and private sector bodies have contributed towards the growth of Guyana’s economy and the raising of the quality of life of persons.
