Schools were reopened yesterday, and Education Minister Shaik Baksh had assured parents and teachers that, despite the heavy showers of rain over the past few days, schools would not have been inundated. As such, students of St Rose’s High School, St Agnes Primary and Nursery, and those of South Road Nursery turned up for school yesterday morning.Imagine their astonishment when they found out that the entire compound of these respective schools was under water. The children were subsequently advised to return home until further notice. When Kaieteur News visited St Rose’s High School, teachers were reluctant to discuss the issue, and advised that this newspaper speak with officials at the Ministry of Education. However,Wholesale Authentic Jerseys, a teacher who wished to remain anonymous said that the problem is an ‘age old one.’ She said that every time it rains the school becomes flooded. She also opined that if the drainage system around the school receives attention, the situation can be reasonably rectified. In the meantime, the teachers are valiantly trying to accommodate the students in the fifth and sixth forms, since they are preparing for examinations.Efforts by this newspaper to contact Minister Baksh on the issue proved futile. |
