The section of Sheriff Street, which was excavated on Tuesday,Bobby Hull Jersey, is still under repair and was yesterday completely closed. It is estimated that the road should be able to accommodate at least a single lane of vehicular traffic by some time this morning. The location where the roadway was excavated,Bobby Smith Jersey, not far from the junction of Sheriff and David Streets, was yesterday a hive of activity as the workmen continued their work to replace the rotten culvert,Niklas Hjalmarsson Jersey, which they discovered under the roadway. The workmen said that thus far,Glenn Hall Jersey, the repair work was going according to schedule.Workers of the Ministry of Public Works on Tuesday said that they had repaired that section of road numerous times. “The last time we patched that hole was about two months ago,Paul Stastny Jersey,” said one of the workers. The constant repair of the same section of road caused the workers to think that there might have been a problem with the road itself,Brett Hull Jersey, probably with the foundation.“Since we keep on repairing it and it kept becoming damaged,Joakim Nordstrom Jersey,” said one of the workers,Mikko Koivu Jersey, “we decided to dig it, to see what the problem is. When we excavated it, we found this rotten culvert.”Reports concerning the widening hole had been made since Sunday night,Jeremy Roenick Jersey, last. As fate would have it, the hold widened and the road collapsed during the daylight hours when it would have been clearly visible to traffic. The workers explained that there was another hole across the road from the one that they had excavated and that that one was patched last Friday last in the wake of the heavy downpour on Thursday. The workmen said that they do not plan to excavate the second hole. The closure of that section of Sheriff Street significantly affected traffic in the area. Traffic travelling northward was diverted down John Smith Street. |
