Some 85 students from 19 schools and organizations across the country are undergoing work-study stints at the Guyana Defence Force.Twenty-eight of the students are with the Fourth Engineers Battalion,Marcin Gortat Wizards Jersey, while others are assigned to the other eleven Units and Departments which include Air,Stephen Curry Team USA Jersey, Agriculture,Raptors Jersey, Medical Signal Corps and Headquarters at Base Camp Ayanganna and Base Camp Stephenson,Vince Carter Raptors Jersey, respectively.Many other students are also expected to join the team for the second phase of the programme, which will begin on August 4,Bradley Beal Wizards Jersey, 2008.The Guyana Defence Force is encouraging the students to make the opportunity one through which they will learn as much as they can and also to make the Force their first choice for employment when they complete their academic studies.The students have been briefed about the various opportunities which are available for their training in the Force. The Army’s Education Programme is geared towards providing opportunities for its soldiers’ continuing education regardless of the level at which they serve.  Jereme Ramatan, of St. Joseph’s High School; Huixiang Chen,Chris Paul Team USA Jersey, of Charlestown Secondary and Mark Shortt,Kyle Lowry Raptors Jersey, of Covent Garden Secondary; all attached to the Information Technology Department at Camp Ayanganna,Paul George Team USA Jersey, agree that the environment is great and indicate that they have all learned something new while in the Department.They also said that they hope to learn much more and are sure that their work-study experience in the GDF will boost their future development in positive ways.The Force sees the continuing work-study programme as a perfect mechanism to aid nation-building through its provision of opportunities for the personal development of youths.Additionally, the Guyana Defence Force is currently recruiting for its second Basic Recruits Course (BRC) in 2008. This is expected to begin mid-August.The soldiers who recently graduated from the first BRC are now undergoing specialized training which will further equip them to work within the various units of the Force.Youths with a sound secondary school education are encouraged to apply to begin careers within the ranks of the GDF and to take every opportunity to benefit from the rewards that come with exploring the country,Michael Jordan Team USA Jersey, while developing their potential to be great contributors to the continued development of Guyana.
