The late Marcel Christopher Crawford (Senior Counsel) 77, who died on Christmas Day, was laid to rest on Saturday at the Auchlyne Cemetery after a moving church service at the St. Saviour Presbyterian Church at Auchlyne, Corentyne Berbice. He was also made a Senior Counsel in 1991 by the PNC. A man of all seasons who excelled in all that he undertook and was described as a rare breed whose boots would be hard to fill.Justice Kennard was more nostalgic in his tribute to his longtime friend and colleague whom he knew from birth. He said that they are about the same age. His lengthy tribute traced from boyhood days to them teaching together and visiting one another and doing almost everything youths would do.They both excelled academically and became outstanding lawyers. They were both deeply involved in horse racing. It was he who encouraged Crawford to turn to law in England, when Crawford, who had gone to study medicine, was undecided about his career.Kennard, who is also the president of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA) urged those in attendance to take a page out Crawford’s book. He also expressed condolence on behalf of the GH RA.Llewellyn John spoke on behalf of the Guyana Bar Association (GBA) while Attorney Mirza Sahadat, Vice President of the Guyana Association of Legal Practitioners (GALP) formerly the Berbice Bar Association (BBA),Wholesale China Jerseys, delivered a well put together tribute.Michael Patterson Area manager of the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) Berbice gave riveting tribute on behalf of that body of which Mr. Crawford was the Chairman of the Appellate Tribunal.At the time of his death, Crawford was the only Senior Counsel in Berbice. He took ill while at home on Christmas Day and was rushed to the Anamayah Hospital on the Corentyne before passing away.He was also hornoured recently by a number of prominent African groups as an outstanding Guyanese of African descent. |
