On the occasion of her 103rd birth anniversary yesterday,Fabian Orellana Chile Jersey, centenarian Edmay Mc Intosh was honoured with a courtesy call from none other than First Lady, Sandra Granger. When Kaieteur News visited her home, a gleeful McIntosh spoke of her “gratefulness to the Almighty God” for allowing her to live to see another milestone.“His mercies are great every day! I just have to thank God for life,Charles Aranguiz Chile Jersey,” she exclaimed.Even at her age, Mrs Mc Intosh still possesses a sharp memory and has no major health issues.She was born in Paramaribo,Hugo Ayala Mexico Jersey, Suriname. She came to these shores at “a very young age” because her parents were both Guyanese. However, this centenarian considers herself “Guyanese,” in every sense of the word.“It’s here I learned to walk,Jean Beausejour Chile Jersey, and speak…I went to school,Hirving Lozano Mexico Jersey, met my husband and everything,” she said.McIntosh spent her childhood years in various parts of the country but settled at Friendship after she married her husband,Giovani dos Santos Mexico Jersey, Max McIntosh.Although,Viktor Claesson Sweden Jersey, the couple had four children, Mc Intosh has since witnessed the birth of four generations of her family. She has “numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great –grandchildren”, who all call her “mommy.”The centenarian believes that respect for the elderly is the real key to living a long happy life.“You have to live good with people and be respectful to the older folks at all times,” she shared.Mrs. Mc Intosh enjoys good company and great food. One of her favourite meals is cow heel soup with pigtail on Sundays.A member of the St Agnes Anglican Church in Friendship, Mrs. McIntosh still loves to share stories from her Bible. |
