A 25-year-old United States-based Guyanese,Jonathan Bullard Jersey, Wendell Dublin,Alshon Jeffery Jersey, was yesterday remanded to prison on a charge of drug possession. He appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.It is alleged that on April 8,Kevin White Jersey, at Hill Street,Alshon Jeffery Bears Jersey, Lodge, Dublin had in his possession 23 grams of cannabis for the sole purpose of trafficking. He is being represented by attorney at law Leslie Sobers.According to the lawyer,Kevin White Bears Jersey, his client recently returned to Guyana to visit his ailing father and decided to go out with cousins.Sobers said that after making their rounds in town,Emmitt Smith Jersey, he and his cousins were heading back to Bee Hive,Dak Prescott Jersey, East Coast Demerara,Larry Allen Jersey, where he was staying.The lawyer said that the vehicle in which his client was traveling was stopped and searched and the illicit substance was found.Sobers told the court that the vehicle also had four other persons inside and his client is baffled as to why he alone was charged for the offence.The lawyer, however, stated that he would not be applying for bail because he knows the seriousness attached to drug offences.“Your Worship I would not be making a bail application because it is common knowledge about the way things work with narcotics matters,Robert Newhouse Cowboys Jersey,” Sobers explained to the magistrate.The lawyer asked for an early date to be able to show his client’s innocence. He added that his client had no knowledge that the drugs were in the vehicle.Police Prosecutor Seetaram told the court that the section under which the defendant is charged demands special reasons must be given and that that no special reasons were given by counsel.He added that his facts differ and the drugs were indeed found in the defendant’s possession.Dublin was remanded to prison and the matter was transferred to Court Five for April 17. |
