– Ministry of Labour looks to interveneThe Guyana Bauxite and General Workers Union (GB&GWU) has rejected an offer of a 2.5 per cent pay increase for workers attached to bauxite shipper Oldendorff Carriers and the Union stands poised to strike if a reasonable offer is not put on the table.Guyana is the fourth largest supplier of bauxite to the United States. The union wants higher pay and better terms from German transporter Oldendorff Carriers,Dan Girardi Rangers Jersey, which ships out between 2.0 million and 2.5 million tonnes of the ore each year.The Union rejected the increase offered when it met with officials of the company Tuesday.
