The Miss Guyana Sari Queen Pageant 2011 captured a modest crowd at the National Cultural Centre Thursday evening. The programme lasted well into Friday morning.The graceful Satari Dance began the programme; the occasional breaks in music had no affect on the young woman who delivered her dance almost to perfection.Crowned Winner Tonaina SamarooEvery corner of the National Cultural Centre sparkled from stage to auditorium seats, with saris, ghagaras, and shalwars. It was a gracefully colourful event showing appreciation to East Indian heritage.The crowned queen Tonaina Samaroo dazzled in a brown and gold sari that was befitting of a woman whose alluring voice inspired the audience when she sang Khabi Khushie Khabie Gham. Miss Samaroo is 22 years old and from the East Coast Demerara. She likes to read and is studying Accountancy.Many contestants chose to present traditional dances with a modern touch to win the hearts of the judges. Yet,Bobby Smith Jersey, it was Miss Samaroo’s voice,Jacob Trouba Team North America Jersey, intellect, and sari that won her the crown in the end.The winner was awarded approximately $300,Marcel Goc Jersey,000 in gift vouchers and prizes which include $50,Patrick Kane Jersey,000 gift voucher for Gizmos and Gadgets,Alex Goligoski Jersey, a trip to Trinidad and Tobago,Glenn Hall Jersey, a Flat screen Television,Christian Folin Jersey, and a BlackBerry Cellular phone from Cellular Plus.The runners up were Miss Mohini Roopchand,Artemi Panarin Jersey, Miss Ivonna Dasrat,Mike Modano Jersey, Miss Kamini Ramlachan and Miss Anjanie Devi Singh.Devindra Pooran and Seeta enticed the audience to reminisce their younger days and sing along to the songs of their childhood. Their performances were a breath of fresh air when present on stage. |
