Seventy professionals and service providers from Government agencies and civil society are being trained in the areas of forensic interviewing of survivors of sexual abuse and multi-disciplinary responses to sexual abuse.Some 70 forensic interviewers being trained handle sex abused child victims, the Ministry announced yesterday.The training is part of a partnership under the theme, “Break the Silence: Child Sexual Abuse”, between the Ministry of Labour, Human Services and Social Security,Daniel Sprong Penguins Jersey, and non-governmental organisations,Luke Glendening Red Wings Jersey, Forward Guyana and ChildLink Inc. with support from the United Nations Child’s Fund (UNICEF).According to the Ministry,Paul Coffey Penguins Jersey, the training programme being done by International Facilitators in the field of the Child Advocacy,Johan Franzen Red Wings Jersey, began yesterday and concludes Friday at the Guyana Police Force Training Complex, Camp Road.“This capacity building exercise is instrumental to operationalising aspects of the Sexual Offences Act, 2010.Last September, the Ministry of Labour, Human Services and Social Security,Eddie Giacomin Rangers Jersey, and non-governmental organisations,Tomas Tatar Red Wings Jersey, Forward Guyana and ChildLink Inc. signed a Memorandum of Understanding,Henri Richard Canadiens Jersey, to establish Guyana’s first Child Advocacy Centre.”According to the Ministry, the Child Advocacy Centre will offer a well-furnished; child friendly environment staffed by forensic interviewers, counsellors and parenting skills educators.“The centre will lead the way in ensuring that survivors of sexual abuse only have to relate their experience once. This mechanism can be seen as an opportunity to reduce trauma and any fear of victimisation or stigma.”The partnership,Eric Fehr Penguins Jersey, the Ministry said,Andre Burakovsky Capitals Jersey, with civil society and UNICEF, represents only one in a number of planned actions to decentralise child protection services and which includes child protection mapping and development of the vision and strategy for child protection. |
