Police have accused a Charlestown man of having one gram of cocaine in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.Lance Walters denied any knowledge of the drugs when he faced the court yesterday.The charge states that the accused was found with the illicit substance last Friday (November 30).Subsequent to the accused entering his plea,Neal Broten Jersey, the prosecution related the facts of the case to the court.According to the prosecution,Gump Worsley Jersey, police ranks on mobile patrol noticed the accused in the vicinity of Cross Street,Brian Bellows Jersey, Charlestown,Rene Bourque Jersey, acting in a suspicious manner and decided to conduct a search on his person. During the search the officers unearthed what suspected to be cocaine in his pants pocket. The matter tested positive as cocaine and Walters was charged and placed before court.He was represented by Attorney -At -Law James Bond.The lawyer in a request for bail told the court that the narcotic was never found on the defendant neither was the substance weighed in his presence. The lawyer explained that his client has an ongoing issue with the arresting rank whom he identified as one “Officer Cornelius.” The lawyer claimed that his client is constantly harassed by the said policeman thus he was arrested and held in excess of 72 hours. Bond also argued that the quantum of the drug his client allegedly possessed is a small amount and asked that the court take this factor into consideration before the ruling is made.Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine Beharry noted that the Attorney had not given a special reason as a basis for the accused to be granted bail. She ordered that Walters be remanded until December 19 when the case will be presented for trial. |
