The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) is claiming sabotage after a severed cable was discovered on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway which left several districts without service yesterday.A statement from the company last evening said that this “recent act of sabotage is being viewed as another attempt to negatively affect the continued smooth operation of the company and a total disregard for the many aspects of life that can be affected during the loss of communication.” Areas affected included Linden,Addison Russell Cubs Jersey, Loo Creek,Bartolo Colon Mets Jersey, Kairuni,Javier Baez Cubs Jersey, Kwakwani,Aaron Sanchez Blue Jays Jersey, Mahdia,Joe Panik Giants Jersey, Amelia’s Ward,Jason Heyward Cubs Jersey, Ituni and Mabura areas.The disruption occurred between 09:00 hrs and 15:00 hrs and resulted from the “deliberate severing of the company’s cable 10.5 km from the Long Creek area,Anthony Rizzo Cubs Jersey,” GT&T said. ”The company was again forced to re-deploy technicians to effect repairs to the damaged cable and restore service to its customers.” The company said that it was only Tuesday last that it extended its cellular service to residents of the Mabura community and has scheduled an official commissioning for tomorrow.”We again appeal for vigilance in the protection of the facilities installed to serve Guyana.” |
