– cop, others for aiding and abettingBy Latoya Giles Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry yesterday denied bail to five persons, among them a former immigration officer, a serving member of the Guyana Police Force and a woman, who were all charged in connection with the double murders at Bartica.First to be charged was Rawle Newton also known as “Satan’s Ambassador”, who was not required to plead to the indictable offence of murder. The allegation was that Newton, cheap jerseys paypal, between September 4 and September 5, last, at Bartica murdered Jainarine Raghubar and Ramdeo Deonarine.Newton was also additionally charged with two counts of armed robbery. Another charge stated that on the same day Newton robbed Arnold Hoppie of gold jewellery valuing $2.1M.Newton, who was unrepresented, stood calmly in the prisoners dock as the charges were read to him.Police Prosecutor Steven Telford made an application that bail be refused in relation to the robbery matters.Telford begged the Magistrate to transfer all the matters to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court for trial. That application was granted and Newton is now expected to make his second court appearance on October 27, at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court. It was now time for charges to be read against Michael Newton, 33, the younger brother of murder accused Rawle Newton. The allegation was that between September 5 and September 16, last, at Bartica he received, relieved and assisted his brother, cheap nfl jerseys authentic, Rawle, with the knowledge that he murdered Jainarine Raghubar and Ramdeo Deonarine.  He was not required to plead to the charge since it was indictable. His lawyer, attorney at law Gordon Gilhuys, in a bail application stated that it was an eminently bailable offence with which his client is charged. He said that his client was arrested after the police found some articles at his house and immediately suggested that they were attached to the robbery and murder of the two gold dealers at Bartica.Gilhuys said that his client is innocent and, as such, he should be granted bail in a reasonable sum.Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford objected to bail, however. According to the prosecutor the younger Newton was a possible flight risk. The prosecutor also stated that if bail is granted there was the possibility of him interfering with witnesses.Magistrate Beharry, after hearing the arguments refused to allow Newton to his pretrial liberty. He was remanded and is expected to make his next court appearance on October 27, at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.Next to have the charges read to them were Tactical Service Rank, Constable Marlon Letlow, cheap nfl jerseys black friday, 25, of 23 Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara, cheap china jerseys nfl, and former Immigration Officer, Linden Scotland, cheap china nfl jerseys, who were jointly charged. The two were not allowed to plead to a charge stating that they relieved, received and maintained Rawle Newton knowing that he murdered Jainarine Raghubar and Ramdeo Deonarine.Attorney at law Nigel Hughes who represented Letlow argued that his client has been a serving member of the Guyana Police Force for over seven years. The lawyer said that he was well aware of the seriousness of the offence, but would be addressing the judicial aspect of the charge.Hughes explained that his client is assigned to the Tactical Services Unit. Furthermore, the lawyer told the court, that unlike some of the other defendants, Letlow, never signed any confession letter.Moreso, Hughes was adamant that his client never harboured anyone, as the police are alleging. He explained that his client was arrested on Wednesday last, when he was going to a hotel.Hughes noted that there is no evidence to support that his client has any intention to flee the jurisdiction. The lawyer further stated that there is no interference since one of the parties (Rawle Newton) has been remanded, while the others are reputable police officers.“I’m sure, my client can’t try to interfere with some of the finest officers attached to the Criminal Investigation Department,” said the lawyer.Attorney at law Vic Puran who represented Scotland opined that the police are looking for “Kudos”.The lawyer stated that if the prosecution is opposing bail, they must therefore satisfy that the charge is known to law.He said that there should be reasonable evidence that the person brought before the court with the honest belief that person committed the offense.Against that backdrop,cheapjerseys.com, Puran stated that the prosecution must explain on what basis that his client did what they (prosecution) are alleging.“The prosecution must establish sufficient evidence that his client did what they are alleging.”Furthermore, he said that the allegation does not place his client at the limb of the case. According to Puran, the police force is looking for “Kudos”.Puran posited that he was not claiming his client did not commit an offence, but the charge instituted was incorrect.Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that the two were in receipt of information, that Newton had murdered the two businessmen at Bartica. He said that the two men, after learning that fact, comforted Rawle Newton and collected $1.4M and a motorcar from him.He further told the court that the two men requested more money so as to help Newton avoid prosecution. He said that the men were caught during a sting operation. Telford said that bail should be refused because they pose flight risks and also the possible interference. At this point, Nigel Hughes interjected and stated that after hearing the prosecutor’s facts on the case, nfl jerseys cheap authentic, it was clear that there was no “comforting and assisting”.“Comfort is a voluntary act….and that it is not what happened; it is more of an extortion case”.He noted that if Scotland and Letlow are refused bail, there is a high possibility that they will come into contact with the murder accused which might cause chaos among the parties in prison. He opined that the prosecution can never prove its case against his client. Despite relentless arguments the Magistrate remanded the defendants. They are expected to make another court appearance on October 27.Kim Bumbury, 39, the fifth and last person to be charged in connection with the double murders was separately charged with aiding and abetting Rawle Newton, her reputed husband. The charge read that Bumbury, who resides at Caesar Street, Agricola, between September 5 and September 16 received, relieved and comforted Newton. The court was told that Newton went to Bumbury’s home and left a quantity of money and gold with her to keep. Telford said that Bumbury proceeded to purchase a set of household articles. She was arrested after the police received certain information. Her lawyer, Peter Hugh, refuted claims that his client is the reputed wife of Rawle Newton, but rather that they shared a relationship a long time back. The lawyer argued that his client was not a flight risk adding that she would attend court whenever necessary. Despite the intensified arguments made by the defense counsel, the Magistrate remanded the woman to prison.Michael Newton will make an appearance at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on October 27, while Linden Scotland and Marlon Letlow and Kim will make another court appearance on October 4 at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for reports and advise from the Director of Public Prosecution. The police made the breakthrough last week, after a lot of money began surfacing around Georgetown.  Four newly bought cars were seized, one of the men even told the police that he spent four nights at the Princess International Hotel, where he gambled and lost in the casino. The police also seized a quantity of electrical appliances from homes in Meadow Brook, La Penitence and Agricola. The police said that they also recovered the firearm owned by Ricky Ramnarine, the man in whose home the gold dealers were killed. The cars were believed to have been bought with money taken from the gold dealers. The mastermind was smart to buy two of the cars and pay in installments. Another of the accomplices also bought two cars, one of which he presented to his mother.
