Mohabir L. Ramnarine,New York Mets Darryl Strawberry Jersey, a Guyanese educator, and former resident of the United States,Joe Carter Indians Jersey, now residing in Canada, was recently presented with the prestigious 2010 Arts Acclaim award for his dedicated service,Miguel Montero Cubs Jersey, voluntary contribution to society and for his book published by Author House in 2009.The ceremony was held at the Rose Theatre in Flower City, Brampton.Educator Mohabir Ramnarine (right) with his award.The award was presented by Marnie Richards, Executive Director of Brampton Arts Council. In his citation, Michael Halls of the Board of Directors,Steve Grogan Patriots Jersey, states “Mohabir Ramnarine is the author of a book about his professional life as a teacher in Guyana. The narrative of Beyond the Blackboard is interwoven with insights into Mohabir’s extensive family, the East Indian Diaspora in the Americas and Europe,Nicklas Backstrom Capitals Jersey, and personal suffering and tragedy.”Beyond the Blackboard is rich in personal impressions of the teaching profession,Marc-Andre Ter Stegen Jersey, and especially the education system in the former British colony of Guyana.In his 36-year teaching career Mohabir served in several capacities, including Headmaster and District Education Officer. He lectured at the In-service Teacher Training Centre, managed the Crabwood Creek Library, and played an active role in the Community Development Program.After his retirement from the Ministry of Education he continued his vocation as a teacher in New York City.Proceeds from the sale of Beyond the Blackboard are used towards the expansion of Crabwood Creek Library in Guyana.Both Mohabir and his wife Beverly, also an educator, reside in Brampton.In her letter to Mohabir congratulating him on his Arts Acclaim award, a citizen’s award offered by the City of Brampton,Javon Hargrave Steelers Jersey UK, Mayor Susan Fennel writes, “It is a member of our community such as yourself that  make Brampton the great city that it is.”
