A Corentyne woman is seeking compensation to the tune of $5M from prominent Berbice lawyer, Murseline Bacchus. Bacchus, and fish vendor Chandra Lakha Ramdass, were both charged with conspiracy to obstruct the course of justice back in 2009 when they appeared before Magistrate Krishendat Persaud at the Number 51 Magistrate’s Court.Annetta Samaroo, of Lot 10 Section ‘B’, Fyrish,Cheap Baseball Jerseys, Corentyne recently sought the attention of the Court of Appeal and as such has been ordered, along with Bacchus, to appear before the Legal Practitioners’ Committee in Georgetown on June 20 for a hearing.The matter started in 2004 when Samaroo’s husband, Gary ‘Fat Bull’ Samaroo was murdered. Samaroo testified in the Magistrate’s court. The men accused of the killing: Abdussalam ‘Sato’ Azimullah; Ghanshan ‘Suresh’ Jagessar; and Devendra ‘Bara’ Harrichand, were all committed to stand trial in the High Court.”It was alleged that Azimullah was in the company of two other men, Ghansham Jagassar, 31, of 60 Squatting Area, Williamsburg, Corentyne, and Davendra Harricharran, 24, called ‘Bara’ of Nigg Squatting Area, when he allegedly committed the act in a rum shop.They were arrested and charged and after a Preliminary Inquiry was conducted at the Albion Magistrate’s Court, they were committed to stand trial for manslaughter in the High Court and granted bail. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) subsequently reviewed the case and ordered that the men be committed for murder.Samaroo was later charged with perjury when she claimed that she was given an Affidavit while in Mr. Bacchus’s office that changed her story to say that she didn’t quite recognize the voice (of the men) and she had to stand trial.“I had no money and went to court without a lawyer and was advised by the magistrate to find a lawyer.”According to her lawyer, Mr. Charrandass Persaud, “Mr. Bacchus was subsequently charged with witness tampering but because of some bungling and who knows what else—the matter was stayed. Bacchus was not prosecuted for the witness tampering charge.”He added that his client said that she spent a lot of money for what Mr. Bacchus did to her and she went to the Legal Practitioners’’ Committee.Samaroo, he stated,Cheap Authentic Jerseys, was a major witness in the murder trial “and for the Defense Attorney to even speak to her, asking her date of birth even—is unethical and could be deemed witness tampering.
