The St Mary’s Anglican Church of Albion, Corentyne honoured five teachers in the Berbice area who have given exceptional and dedicated service to the profession. Those honoured were Mr D. Somwaroo, who has given 42 years of service and Mrs Soobhadramati Algu  (39 years); Mr Rudranauth Bisnauth (22 years); Ms Savitree Marimootoo, (20 years); and Ms Leelawattie Matadin (19 years).Mr Somwaroo has held several positions at schools across Guyana and although he has retired, he is currently employed with the Berbice Islamic School on the Corentyne. Mrs Algu started to teach at the age of 16 and taught at 8 primary schools. She retired as headmistress of Rose Hall Town Primary. Ms Madramootoo is currently a Senior Assistant Mistress at the Cropper Primary School. Mr Bisnauth is employed at the Corentyne Comprehensive High School.From left: Mr D. Teachers play a very integral part in this country and we see it fit as a church to honour them,” he noted.The teachers were given trophies and hampers as well as bags with several items.He thanked corporate entities and youth organizations such as the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, Comfort Sleep, St Francis Community Developers, Edward B. Beharry, GT&T and Ansa Mc Al for assisting with the venture to honour the teachers.
