After chopping spreePolice on the West Bank of Demerara have arrested a man whom some say is mentally challenged, following the discovery of the body of 49-year-old Rajah Alli, called Bobby,Cam Atkinson Jersey, in a suitcase at a house at Bella Dam, Pouderoyen yesterday afternoon.The gruesome discovery was made shortly before 17:00 hours, after police received information that Rajah’s body was stashed in a suitcase under a shed in the suspect’s yard.Dead: Rajah AlliPolice, in a press release,Craig Hartsburg Jersey, stated that their investigations revealed that Alli and another man were consuming alcohol yesterday when an argument ensued between them.This developed into an altercation,Scott Darling Jersey, during which Alli was chopped about his body and placed into a suitcase which was left under a shed.Neighbours contacted the police, and upon their arrival,Scott Gomez Jersey, the police found Alli’s body in the suitcase.It was subsequently taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where Alli was officially pronounced dead.The dead man’s sister, Ranjina Alli,Ales Hemsky Jersey, told this newspaper that she last saw her brother on Friday afternoon when he visited her home.She told this newspaper that she received a message, at around 17:10 hours,Corey Crawford Jersey, informing her that someone had chopped her brother.She said that she left her home and visited the home of the suspect, where a crowd had already gathered, but she was not allowed into the yard.She said that the police had already taken the suspect,Brian Sutter Jersey, who is known as ‘Chico,’ into custody.Her nephew, Ravi Seenarine,Connor Hellebuyck Team North America Jersey, who witnessed the body, told this newspaper that, upon entering the yard, he saw his uncle’s body forced into a suitcase.He said that there were chops all over his face. “I saw him lying down in a suitcase, fold up,Tyler Seguin Jersey,” Seenarine said.He said that the suspect is a known drug addict who would normally be seen walking through the community with a cutlass or other dangerous instrument.“He always walk with cutlass up and down the road,” Ranjina Alli told this newspaper.Seenarine said that, from the information he received, his uncle had gone to the suspect’s home and had imbibed alcohol.The family could not say why Alli was associated with the suspect, since they were not known to be friends.“We only get a message that neighbours see this man (Alli) in blood. They see he in the suitcase with blood and they called the police,” the dead man’s sister disclosed.She said the suspect lives by himself in a house owned by his parents, who reside overseas. Police are expected to institute a murder charge soon.The death of Rajah Alli is the first recorded homicide for 2009 in Guyana. |
