A labourer who resides at Lot 73 Princes Street,Teuvo Teravainen Jersey, Lodge was yesterday brought before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with stealing his neighbour’s pig.Calvin Francis appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded guilty. The prosecution’s claim is that on February 10,Jack Johnson Jersey, at Princes Street,Craig Hartsburg Jersey, he stole Jean Bacchus’s pig which cost $65,Jamie Benn Jersey,000.Francis explained to the court that about 15:00 hours that day he was heading home when “the pig got knocked down and I pick it up and carry it to the market to sell it. I didn’t steal it.”Based on his explanation,Niklas Backstrom Jersey, the court entered a not guilty plea. But Inspector Michael Grant, the prosecutor,Wayne Gretzky Jersey, told the court that about 13:30 hours that day,Graham Knott Jersey, Bacchus had the pig in her pen but around 16:20 hours,Mikko Koivu Jersey, she noticed the pig missing.According to Grant,Neal Broten Jersey, someone informed her that the accused was seen with the pig in the yard and she reported the matter to the police. Francis was subsequently arrested and charged.The court heard that the accused was previously convicted on a simple larceny charge and served 18 months in prison for stealing a car light.The Chief Magistrate refused bail and ordered that he return to court on March 3 |
