He mentioned the ExxonMobil project as yet another developmental venture that is moving forward, with the exploration for oil and natural gas resources.“Once the price of gold returns to its former glory, we will see a plethora of activities,” Gafoor opined.“All of these industries will need welders, electricians, electrical engineers, mechanics, etc.  If we put together all of our qualified people to provide for all the skills required, only for these areas, I doubt whether we will be able to fill 50 percent of the required vacancies,” he noted.He stated too that Guyana needs skilled workers – people who would put their hands and their backs into an undertaking to keep the wheels of industries grinding.But it is the view of the respected entrepreneur that no country with vast natural resources as Guyana can develop without technical skills.His assertions were forthcoming as he addressed a gathering at a recent graduation ceremony at the Guyana Technical Institute (GTI), Woolford Avenue, Georgetown.“Today marks an historical day in the annals of the Government Technical Institute,” said Gafoor, as he added that “This is the time as many as 650 graduands are given certificates confirming they have been certified in competence in the various fields in which they have studied.”The GTI has been educating students who have excelled in many fields including Industrialist, Mr. George Jardim, who invented the robotic gravel pump for the gold mining industry, noted Gafoor.  Previously, river bed gold mining was done by divers – dozens of whom lost their lives caused by underwater cave-ins.Gafoor also named Mr Carl Benn,Enrique Esqueda Mexico Jersey, the principal of GTI,Marco Fabian Mexico Jersey, who has excelled in education.
