This probe will be conducted with other agencies,Tim Duncan College Jersey, including veterinary personnel.“We are on alert…we will check to see if we getting any meat from any of the contaminated sources,” Dr. Ramsaran told Kaieteur News, while explaining that only small supplies of meat are imported here.“I don’t know if we have large imports of meat from this source…we have not come across any incidents. We will be checking records with the Chief Medical Officer and the Veterinary people,Enrique Hernandez Dodgers Jersey,” he added. The Health Minister noted that the scandal has now spread to other European countries such as Holland and Poland.International media reports stated that the scandal was unearthed last month in Ireland and the UK when health officials conducting routine checks found horse DNA in frozen beef burgers.According to some reports, British officials also found that a small amount of the horse meat contained a banned drug which could be fatal if ingested in high doses.Reuters reported that six horses slaughtered in the U.K. that tested positive for the potentially harmful drug Phenylbutazone were exported to France and may have entered the human food chain.Phenylbutazone,New York Mets Bartolo Colon Jersey, commonly known as bute, is an anti-inflammatory painkiller for sporting horses but is banned for animals intended for human consumption.According to Reuters, Britain’s Food Standards Agency (FSA) said it was gathering information on the six carcasses sent to France and was working with French authorities to trace them. The report added that the FSA said it checked 206 horse carcasses between Jan. 30 and Feb. 7. Of these,David Savard Jersey, eight tested positive for the drug.It said the six sent to France were slaughtered by a firm in Taunton,Jonathan Papelbon Nationals Jersey, Western England. The remaining two did not leave the slaughterhouse in Nantwich, North West England, and have now been disposed of.The FSA introduced 100 percent testing of horse carcasses on Jan. 30 in response to the growing horse scandal. The media reports said that the issue first came to light on Jan. 15 when routine tests by Irish authorities discovered horsemeat in beef burgers made by firms in Ireland and Britain and sold in supermarket chains including Tesco, Britain’s biggest retailer. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland revealed that beef burgers with traces of equine DNA,Adoree Jackson College Jersey, including one product classed as 29 percent horse was being supplied to supermarkets by Silvercrest Foods in Ireland and Dalepak Hambleton in Yorkshire, subsidiaries of the ABP Food Group. The probe led to ten million suspect burgers being removed from shelves, including by retailers Tesco, Lidl,Baltimore Orioles Pedro Alvarez Jersey, Aldi, Iceland and Dunnes Stores.A third company, Liffey meats,Kyle Schwarber Cubs Jersey, based in Co Cavan,Detroit Tigers Denny Mclain Jersey, Ireland, was also found to be supplying products to supermarkets with traces of horse DNA.Concern is said to have grown when the British unit of frozen foods group Findus began recalling its beef lasagne on advice from its French supplier, Comigel, after tests showed concentrations of horsemeat ranging from 60 to 100 percent. The probe has said to have led to three arrests last Thursday in U.K. and the European Union has endorsed a major DNA testing programme to ascertain how much of the horse meat is being sold as beef and other products.
