The British High Commission donated several books on Climate Change to the University of Guyana and the office of Climate Change and Forestry Commission yesterday at the High Commissioner’s residence in Bel Air Gardens.At the handing over were Acting High Commissioner Simon Bond, Vice Chancellor of the University of Guyana, Professor Lawrence Carrington and Shyam Nokta,Gabe Carimi Wisconsin Jersey, Chairman of the National Climate Change Committee.Among the books donated were; Climate Cataclysm,Cheap Oregon Ducks Jerseys, Climate Change and Global Security,Myles Garrett Texas A&M Jersey, Profiting from Clean Energy, Tropical Forest Conservation and Future Energy.Acting High Commissioner Bond in his remarks noted that the UK has been very supportive of the Low Carbon Development Strategy developed in Guyana, and has seen it as a positive and innovative agenda.According to the envoy, “climate change is not going away and will be with us for decades” however,Washington State Cougars Jerseys, it is important that the capacity is built.In this regard, he stressed that information has to be garnered by way of current reading materials and consultation with stakeholders to implement proper policies,San Diego State Aztecs Jerseys, which will engender a successful national approach.Bond disclosed that scholarships have been provided in the area of climate change, and “we are looking forward to working with Conservational International on a schools level project in coming months.”In thanking the envoy and the British Government, UG’s Vice Chancellor Professor Lawrence Carrington opined that the books will contribute significantly to his institution.He added that the University is conscious of the need for several of the faculties to make significant adjustments to programmes.“…In particular,Geno Smith West Virginia Jersey, the School of Environmental Sciences, the Faculty of Technology,De Anthony Thomas Oregon Jersey, the Faculty of Natural Sciences, the Social Science Faculty, and the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, which are going to be engaged in significant curriculum reviews….in which the new direction of movement is which this country is to embark on.”Climate Change Committee Chairman, Shyam Nokta noted that the books are current documentation on climate change, and lauded the British High Commission for promoting since the Low Carbon Development Strategy through a successful series of educational seminars. |
