The Commonwealth Youth Programme Caribbean Centre (CYPCC) in collaboration with the Guyana Youth Business Trust (GYBT) will be conducting a “Train the Trainers” Workshop based on the Commonwealth Youth Credit Initiative (CYCI) Model from tomorrow to Saturday at the IPED building on South Road.The opening ceremony will commence at 8:30am. The concept behind the hosting of the training of trainers programme is to enhance the ability a core group of thirty (30) trainers,Scott Hartnell Jersey, which would include mentors, Guyana Youth Business Trust (GYBT) staff and partners (Volunteer Youth Corps and Institute of Enterprise Development-IPED). This programme would contribute towards the sustainability of the training component of the Trust.The Project comprises three components: (1) Promotion and development of Business Mentors based on the concept of corporate social responsibility; (2) Orientation, Training and Financial Support to the Young Entrepreneur Initiative and (3) Development of a sustainable network through dissemination of results.According to CYPCC, the purpose of the workshop is to help young Guyanese own and operate successful businesses.  And the training will focus on entrepreneurship and achievement motivation to effectively prepare the participants with business skills and initiative and risk-taking skills.The trainers are two Caribbean professionals who manage successful youth entrepreneurship programmes: Mr. Marcellus Joseph of St. Lucia and Mr. John Roach of Dominica.  They will employ various training methods to transfer the classroom into a dynamic centre where all participants can mutually benefit from the rich exchange of information and experiences.Each participant will receive a soft copy of the CYCI Small Business Trainers Manual and of the Achievement Motivation Manual.The Commonwealth Youth Programme has worked over the years with member States and development partners to contribute to efforts to reduce youth unemployment and alleviate poverty. Pro-poor development is one of the major goals of the Commonwealth Secretariat managed at several levels through the Secretariat’s Divisions.The CYCI was pilot-tested during 1996 to 1999 in each of the four main regions of the Commonwealth in the host countries of the four Regional Centres.  Since then the CYP has provided guidance to Governments,Kari Lehtonen Jersey, NGOs and other partner agencies to adapt the CYCI model to develop and successfully sustain their own micro-credit initiatives, using the lessons learned from the pilot projects.The Guyana Youth Business Trust (GYBT) is a non-governmental organization set up in February 2000 to provide affordable finance and assistance to disadvantaged youth going into business.So far the Guyana Youth Business Trust has financed several hundred small enterprises including agricultural, fishery,Devan Dubnyk Jersey, food- and agro-processing; furniture, craft, and garment manufacturing; computer,Bobby Smith Jersey, hairdressing, barbering, tourism,Johnny Oduya Jersey, entertainment and transportation services.Guyana Youth Business Trust (GYBT) is an accredited member of Youth Business International and is currently running the model (YBI’s mentor model) as a Project – Mentor Model to Develop Young Entrepreneurs – funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB).To date, the Trust (GYBT) has funded hundreds of youth businesses, many of which are still operational.This project is a Regional initiative being executed simultaneously over a four-year period in Barbados,Jason Pominville Jersey, Belize,Bobby Hull Jersey, Trinidad & Tobago and Guyana,Marcus Kruger Jersey, by the Barbados Youth Business Trust (BYBT), Youth Business Trust Belize (YBTB),Connor Hellebuyck Team North America Jersey, Youth Business Trinidad & Tobago (YBTT) and Guyana Youth Business Trust (GYBT) respectively.
