…Says the sugar company and Government must give commitment to stay all major decisions The Economic Services Committee of the Parliament has taken the decision to halt all of its work on the reportOpposition Member,Denarius Moore Tennessee Jersey, Irfaan Alicoming out of the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) into the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo).This is according to Opposition Member, Irfaan Ali,Tavon Austin West Virginia Jersey, who serves as one of the members on that Committee.On Thursday, Ali recalled that the Minister of Agriculture,Cheap Purdue Boilermakers Jerseys, Noel Holder, had said that the future of GuySuCo would be guided by the outcome of the assessment made by the Economic Services Committee on the CoI report.The Opposition Member reminded of his earlier sentiments that the Committee should not be used as a scapegoat and that its work would be useless if GuySuCo is still moving forward with making major decisions that would affect the livelihood of the workers in that sector.He said that these issues were raised at the last meeting of the Committee. Ali said that it was unanimous among the members that all work in the Committee should come to a halt until the Government and GuySuCo give a commitment that no action of consequence would be taken in the sector,Dwight Howard SACA Jersey, pending the outcome of the work of the Economic Services Committee.This Committee is chaired by Junior Finance Minister,Texas A&M Jerseys, Jaipaul Sharma. Speaking to Kaieteur News last night,LaMichael James Oregon Jersey, Sharma said that he was not at the meeting when the decision was made in the Committee. He said that in his absence,SACA Jerseys, Ali had taken over as the Chairperson.The Junior Finance Minister said that the decision was subsequently passed on to him and based on the reasons supplied; he cannot help but agree. He said that he would be writing to the management of GuySuCo to inform the members of the decision which was taken by the Committee. |
