Intensive workshop sessions are planned this week to brainstorm ideas about how the deaf in Guyana can have better access to employment, education, sports and other activities.A workshop on the workplace will include a testimonial from an employed deaf achiever who will discuss her experiences with participants who represent businesses that employ or are willing to employ deaf persons.The session is expected to recommend ways of encouraging business and other organisations to develop partnerships with special education schools; assist in equipping these schools with low-cost new information technology and other tools; increase access to books, DVDs, CDs and other materials and so improve prospects for deaf persons to engage in productive endeavours and find gainful employment.At a workshop planned for tomorrow, a deaf achiever will share her experiences with misunderstandings caused by impatience, thoughtlessness and disrespect by tellers, cashiers, receptionists and security personnel from businesses and organisations whenever persons with disabilities request information, pay bills and taxes, use transportation services and report on crimes.This session is expected to recommend simple ways of providing respectful assistance for persons with disabilities that promote wider understanding of these issues and that could result in immediate improvements and so demonstrate that considerate services are beneficial to both service providers and their organisations,Robert Suarez Team Venezuela Jersey, but most importantly, to deaf and hard of hearing customers and clients.A workshop entitled ‘In the Home” will provide the opportunity for parents, siblings and other family members of deaf persons to share experiences about bringing up deaf children.
