The Guyana Trades Union Congress has stated that it is least impressed by recent utterances by President Bharrat Jagdeo and Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh. These utterances were intended to breathe some confidence in the government’s handling of the CLICO (Guyana) issue and,Mike Weber Ohio State Jersey, by extension,Manti Teo Notre Dame Jersey, the state of the economy. Guyana Trades Union Congress President Mrs. Gillian Burton.During a press briefing yesterday, acting General Secretary, Norris Witter, raised several issues which the Congress feels need to be addressed for the best interest of all Guyanese.Witter said that as it relates to the CLICO issue the Administration continues to create greater uncertainty in the minds of all Guyanese with their “diet of propagandistic trash aired on NCN 11 on programmes such as In depth,Colin Kaepernick Nevada Jersey, President Diary and Close Up”.“The naked truth is that the average Guyanese does not believe Jagdeo and his band of merry liars anymore,” the General Secretary said.According to Witter,Eli Manning Ole Miss Jersey, President Jagdeo and Dr Ashni Singh, by their own statements suggested that they were aware of Clico (Guyana) being in breach of Section 55 of the Insurance Act Chapter 91:02 since 2007, a situation exacerbated in 2008.He added that, instead of dealing with the issue at hand, they decided to remain mute for fear that disclosure may have caused a run on the company.“Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr Roger Forbes Luncheon, who is Head of the National Insurance Scheme, presided over the loan of billions of NIS dollars to CLICO (Guyana),Vince Carter North Carolina Jersey,” Witter said.“Dr Nanda Kishore Gopaul, Permanent Secretary,Marcus Paige North Carolina Jersey, Public Service Ministry, Office of the President, and Chairman of the New Building Society (NBS),Patrick Willis Ole Miss Jersey, presided over the purchase of CLICO (Guyana) bonds in the Berbice River Bridge to the amount of billions of Guyana dollars,” he added. He said that with all that is going on it is very difficult for persons to believe the assurance given by the head of state when he says their money and benefits are “safe, and that valid claims for medical accident, fire and others will be met”.GTUC president Mrs. Gillian Burton said the Congress will continue to monitor the situation, since there is the likelihood of workers being affected. Burton said the Congress is therefore calling on the Administration to hold a national stakeholders’ consultation on such a sensitive issue.“Consultation should not only be held for domestic and security issues, but also for an issue as sensitive as the CLICO one…We see this matter as very threatening,” Burton pointed out. |
